Places to stay at Cradle Mountain
Discovery Holiday Park (The Disco Park, as our guides like to call it)
The only camp ground at Cradle Mountain, located accross the road from our office. Beautiful spot amongst rainforest, great facilities and friendly staff. They also have dorm style accomodation.
Cradle Mountain Hotel
Located just down the road from our office, a lovely hotel with 60 or so rooms. Also has a restaurant, a bar and a fantastic gallery. You can get a good discount if you are a member of an auto club (RACT, RACV etc).
Cradle Mountain Lodge
Located at the entrance to the National Park, 2km from our office, the Lodge was the first hotel built at Cradle Mt. Cabin style accommodation. Also has a tavern, a fancy restaurant and a spa.
Located just down the road from our office, the Wilderness Village has lovely cabins set in the forest up on a hill. They also have a bar and fantastic restaurant with great views of Cradle Mt (due to being on that hill).
Cradle Mountain Highlanders
A small number of beautiful, self contained cabins, just down the road from our office. Set in a great location amongst lovely forest and run by even lovelier people.
Cradle Forest Inn
Located about 20 minutes drive from Cradle Mountain this is another great option. Also has a tavern that serves great food at great value prices (stuff does get a bit pricey once you get up to the mountain).
Other things to do at Cradle
CRADLE COUNTRY ADVENTURES
Horse back and quad bike tours on the edge of the World Heritage Area. These guys take great tours across the Speeler Plain, with views to Cradle Mountain - a spectacular place that virtually no one else goes to.
DEVILS AT CRADLE
A Tasmanian Devil sanctuary located in the heart of the Cradle Village. We highly recommend doing an after dark feeding tour. The staff are very knowledgeable and it's great to see these nocturnal animals when they are most active.
CRADLE MOUNTAIN WILDERNESS GALLERY
An 18 room gallery with fantastic art and wilderness photography located at the Cradle Mountain Hotel. There is often an artist in residence working away out the back. Well worth a look.
Our favorite Tassie adventures
FRANKLIN RIVER RAFTING
Often listed as one of the best (some would say the best) multi-day rafting tours in the world, this is an amazing adventure. 10 days in a stunning, remote wilderness, tackling one of the great untamed rivers of the world.
ROARING 40S SEA KAYAKING
The seven day Port Davey expedition with these guys must be about the best sea kayaking trip you can do any where. A truly stunning wilderness. They also have short tours around Hobart, day tours at the Tasman Peninsular and have just started tours on Flinders Island. Winners of best Adventure Tourism business at the 2017 Tas Tourism Awards.
KING RIVER RAFTING
The best single day white water rafting you can do in Tas. Based out of Queenstown on the West Coast, this is a great day trip. Check out the paddle and steam combo - raft into the King River Gorge and catch the steam train out of there.
MOUNTAIN BIKE AND ROCK CLIMB TASMANIA
If you want want to get on a tour going rock climbing or mountain biking, check out these guys. A great range of adventures possible in a bunch of different locations.
Mountain biking at Derby, in the North East, is becoming a must do for adventurous people visiting Tasmania. These guys will hire you a properly good mountain bike and shuttle you to the top of the hill.
